China has completed a 3,046-kilometer "green barrier" around the Taklamakan Desert, a major victory in the global fight against desertification. This massive afforestation effort is part of a larger initiative to combat land degradation, a challenge also being tackled by Central Asian nations like Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
