Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to dominate the tech sector, attracting billions of dollars in investment. In 2025, three startups — xAI, OpenAI, and Anthropic — stand out for their record valuations and innovations. These companies, which develop generative AI such as chatbots and data science models, are setting the tone for the industry. TulparTech explains why these startups have become the most valuable and how they influence the future of technology.

OpenAI: The Leader with a $300 Billion Valuation

Competition and challenges

These three startups dominate generative AI, but they face challenges. OpenAI has been criticized for its high prices and potential legal risks, including a lawsuit from The New York Times for copyright infringement. Anthropic is under investigation in the U.K. for its partnership with Google, TechFundingNews reports . xAI is currently lagging behind in valuation, but is planning a new $10 billion round that could push its valuation to $75 billion.

The environmental aspect is also important: training AI models requires huge energy costs. Companies are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint, as we wrote about in AI and the Environment .

The Future of AI Startups

U.S. AI startups are expected to raise $97 billion in 2024, nearly half of all U.S. startup funding, according to Bloomberg . OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI are leading the way, but the market is getting competitive. Companies like Databricks ($63 billion) and Scale AI ($13.8 billion) are also attracting big investments.
